Fuller's Earth Homemade Natural Face Masks

Updated: Jun 5, 2020

Fuller's Earth Clay is an impure absorbent clay consisting mainly of a soft silicate mineral with a dominant element attached. Most Fuller's Earth clays are produced during the water erosion of volcanic ash sediments produced following volcanic eruptions.

A Cosmetic Ingredient

Fuller's Earth is most commonly used in the cosmetic industry where it is often added to skin care products to help remove grease or oil from the skin. Fuller's Earth contains minerals that occur naturally and it is said to have antiseptic and cleansing properties which makes a great ingredient for many cosmetic manufacturers. Fuller's Earth could also be used at home to make your own skin care product or facial mask. It is an excellent cosmetic for removing impurities, oil and blackheads from the skin. It also improves complexion and smoothes out wrinkles.

To make your face mask put 1 tbsp of fuller's earth into a bowl and add just enough water to make a thick paste. Apply to the face, avoiding the lips and eyes, and leave it on for 7-15 minutes (until it sets), then since off with warm water.

You can also add other ingredients the you may have in your home, below I will give a few recipes that will work particularly well for certain skin types:

1.Natural recipe for or all skin types

Mix 1 tbsp of fuller's earth in either 1 tbsp of rose water/ honey/ yogurt/ aloe vera gel, or milk. You need to mix this into a thick paste that isn't runny. If you find you have a runny paste add some more fuller's earth, and alternatively if you find your mix is still powdery add more of your desired liquid ingredient. You can also add 1-2 ml of jojoba oil to your final mixture for an added glow. Apply and leave on your face no longer than 15 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water. You can use this formula once a week to keep your skin feeling vibrant and healthy.

2.Natural recipe for oily skin

Mix 1 tbsp of fuller's earth with a pinch of turmeric powder, a splash of lemon juice, and either; rosewater or still water, until you get a thick paste. Apply to the face and rinse off with lukewarm water once dried.

3.Natural recipe for dry skin

Mix 1 tbsp of fullers earth, 1 tbsp of honey, and 1/2 tbsp of glycerine. Mix into a gentle paste, apply to the face and allow to set, then rinse with lukewarm water. This is a very moisturising face mask for dry skin.

Fuller's Earth occurs as a light brown clay fine powder at room temperature; it has excellent absorbent properties and is capable of absorbing most forms of liquid (including oils). It has been praised for its skin reviving properties for many years due to its mineral content and antiseptic properties. Fuller's Earth may help to replace lost moisture and remove excess oil from the skin; this can improve blood flow which encourages rejuvenation and leave skin feeling smooth and soft. Its high mineral content can also help remove toxins from the skin leaving clean, smooth, soft, detoxified, repaired and rejuvenated skin.
